Obituary

ELIZABETH BLAYLOCK SHELBY, age 82, a resident of Charleston, died at 8:24 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Miner Nursing Center.

She was born June 19, 1927, at Corning, Arkansas, to the late E. Lee and Laura Mulhallen Blaylock. In 1936 she moved to the Bridges Community of Mississippi County, Missouri and had lived in Scott and Mississippi Counties most of her life where she taught in the rural schools. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, had been employed as a cook in Diehlstadt and Kelly Schools, and was later employed in sales at Reeves Boomland in Charleston until her retirement in 1998.

On December 24, 1948, she married Don P. Shelby, who preceded her in death March 16, 1980.

Surviving are: three sons and two daughters in law, Donald Shelby of Lawton, OK; Ron and Barbara Shelby of Diehlstadt and Dennis and Tricia Shelby of Bell City; two daughters, Vickie Shelby of Sikeston and Laura Shelby of Vicksburg, MS; two sisters, Ida Mae Balsano of Coram, NY and Judy McKinney of Fort Worth, TX; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Shelby of Columbia, Paul (Angela) Shelby of Sikeston, TeLisha (Jeremy) Snider and Jessica Shelby all of Cape Girardeau, Eddie (Cheryl) Shelby of Houston, TX, and Todd Shelby of Tempe, AZ; and 4 great grandchildren, Jacob Johnson and Cadence Shelby both of Sikeston, and Kelton Horrell and Max Snider both of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded by one daughter, Stephanie Shelby and by two brothers, Bob Blaylock and Henry Blaylock, and by one sister, Louise Sutherland.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2010 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 15, 2010. Rev. Brandon Peel, great nephew and associate pastor of the North West Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Chris Blaylock, Paul Shelby, Clifford Rolwing, Don Gage, James Peel, and Ronnie Pullen.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
