ESSIE MAE HUDSON WELLS, of Calico Rock, Arkansas and formerly of Charleston, Missouri.
Essie Mae Hudson Wells, daughter of the late U.E. Hudson and Bessie Myrtle Carrico Hudson was born November 25, 1926 in Calico Rock, Arkansas. She departed this life May 1, 2013 in Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 6 days.
In 1949 she was united in marriage to Thomas Wells and to this union one daughter was born. She spent her life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, teacher and friend. She attended Arkansas College, Arkansas Tech and Bethel College. After earning a degree in elementary education, she went on to teach kindergarten and grade school at Buford, Mountain View and Calico Rock. She lived in Charleston, Missouri a number of years where her husband served as Superintendent of the Charleston R-1 Schools and she taught Kindergarten from 1966 to 1988. After retirement, they returned to live in Arkansas. She was of the Presbyterian faith and an active member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Calico Rock.
She is survived by one brother and sister: Dean and Peggy Hudson of Calico Rock; one sister: Betty Riggins of St. Louis, Missouri; two grandchildren: Jodie Michelle Batchelor and Benjamin Wells Rockett; two great grandchildren: Tristan and Leighton Batchelor; one son-in-law: Michael Rockett of Charleston, Missouri and a host of other relatives and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years: Tom Wells; one daughter: Ann Elizabeth Rockett; three brothers: Dr. Dale Hudson, Neill Hudson and Charles Hudson.
A memorial service will be held, Saturday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Calico Rock with Wayne Wood and Tom Campbell officiating.
