LUCY IRBY

Ethel Louise "Lucy" Carter Irby, Age 75, a resident of East Prairie, died Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Born March 16, 1941, at Gideon, MO, to the late Elzie Franklin and Ethel Mae Kilgo Carter, she had lived most of her life in Mississippi County, where she was a wonderful stay at home mother.

In 1997, she married her first love, Sammy Irby, and he preceded her in death in 2009.

Surviving are four sons, Louis DeWayne Achter of East Prairie; Allen Ray Achter of Sikeston; Jimmy Dean Achter of Farmington, MO and Michael Gene Achter of Bertrand; one daughter, Lisa Marie Achter Sizemore of East Prairie; two brothers, Steven Carter of East Prairie and Wesley Carter of Sikeston; 18 grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren and a host of many relatives and friends.

Besides her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by two grandsons, Allen Kenneth Knupp and Roger "Booky" Achter; five brothers, J.W. Carter, Junior Carter, Donald Carter, Charlie Carter and James Carter and by one sister, Geraldine Willis.

Private services will be held.

McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
