EVA "LOIS" MATTHEWS, age 92, a resident of Sikeston died Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Lois was born July 2, 1927 in Kuttawa, KY to Edgar and Anna E. White Hammond. She has lived in Sikeston most of her life where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She loved children and babysat in her home for many years. She was known for her warm hospitality, she enjoyed participating in activities with a group of lifelong friends known as "Bingo Club".

On October 9, 1943 she married John C. Matthews Sr. who preceded her in death in 2007.

Loving survivors include one daughter and son in law, Rita and Harry Philip of Jackson, MO; one son Rodney L. Matthews of Sikeston, MO; one brother, Joe Hammond of Lancaster, CA; one grandson, Matthew D. Wiethop of Cape Girardeau, MO; one granddaughter, Martha Ann Stallings of Colorado Springs, CO; three great grandchildren, Alex, Catherine, and Zachary Stallings of Colorado Springs, CO; also many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, John Clay Matthews, Jr.; one grandson, John Clay "Jayce" Matthews, III; also three brothers and three sisters.

Private family visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, 2020, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston followed by Graveside Services at 2:00 p.m. in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston. Jennifer Moxley, Associate Pastor, First United Methodist Church in Sikeston will officiate.

Interment will follow under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston, Missouri.
