Evangeline DePriest, age 89, of Charleston, died Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born October 24, 1933, at Wyatt, Missouri, to the late James Wilson DePriest and Claudia M. Turner DePriest-Schreck, she had lived in Charleston most of her life where she was employed with Courtesy Ford for over 45 years.
Evangeline was an active member of the Charleston Church of the Nazarene where she served as church treasurer for over 35 years, served as Sunday school teacher and held various other offices in the church until its closing in March 2001. Evangeline was a talented musician and especially loved playing the piano and sharing her beautiful alto voice at church. She later attended the Sikeston First Church of the Nazarene, Unity Baptist at Benton and most recently Southside Baptist Church in Charleston, where again she shared her gift of playing the piano.
Surviving is her brother, Leonard R. DePriest; and many dear nephews, nieces and cousins.
In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Earl Schreck; her brothers, Wilson DePriest and Lester DePriest and stepsister, Jean Schreck Watson.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2023, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Rev. Dennis Lowe, pastor of the Unity Baptist Church at Benton, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
