Frances Elizabeth Abernathy, 88, formerly of Canalou, died Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Sikeston Convalescent Center in Sikeston.  She was born May 29, 1929 in Greenville, Tennessee to the late Elmer Harvey and Dora Mae (Stanfield) Bishop.  A resident of this area most of her life, she was a member of Canalou Baptist Church.  On December 11, 1945 she was married to Robert Lavern Abernathy at New Madrid and he preceded her in death November 3, 2001.  Survivors include 1 son, Harvey Abernathy of Morehouse and 1 daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Ronald Bright of O'Fallon.   One sister Evelyn Clemons of St. James, 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.  3 brothers and 1 sister also preceded in death.  Visitation will be at Blanchard Funeral Chapel Friday, March 23 from 11:00 am until time for services at 1:00 p.m.  Rev. Dewayne Coleman, pastor of Canalou Baptist Church will officiate and burial will follow at Dogwood Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Jason Bright, Sr., Jason Bright, Jr., Wayne Rollins, John Abernathy, Tyler Everton and Jimmy Fowler.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at blanchardfuneral.com.
