FRANCES LOUISE JOHNSON SHELBY, age 89, of Karnak, IL, formerly of Mississippi County, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at York Place Nursing Facility in Bertrand.
She was born January 9, 1926 in Sikeston to the late Leslie R. and Lorene Monroe Johnson. She lived in Mississippi County until 1963 when she moved to Karnak, IL, returning to Missouri in 2014. She was employed with Southwestern Bell in Charleston for a number of years before moving to Karnak. A member of the First Baptist Church in Karnak, she had served as a Sunday School teacher for children and later, adult women. She was an avid reader and enjoyed conversation about current events with her friends and her family whom she loved greatly. She was a devoted wife and mother, loving to cook and ready to entertain with a pot of coffee for anyone stopping for a visit.
On June 7, 1947 she married Kermit Wolfe Shelby who preceded her in death on March 5, 1997.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter, John ( Darlene) Shelby of Metropolis, IL, Leslie(Fillis) Shelby of Brandon, MS, Randy( Marna) Shelby of Orlando, FL, and Jane (Mike) Bryant of East Prairie; one sister, Sondra Chapman of Sikeston; eight grandchildren, Kristin Shelby of Herrin, IL, Justin Shelby of Metropolis, IL, Keegan Shelby of Jacksonville, FL, Rory Shelby and Braelin Shelby both of Orlando, FL, Austin Shelby of Ridgway, CO, Blair Bryant of Oxford, MS and Haley Bryant of East Prairie; also four great grandchildren, Ellie Shelby, Emmy Shelby, Ethan Shelby, and Keegan Shelby II.
In addition to her parents and husband, two brothers, Billy Gene Johnson and Jimmy "Chunk" Johnson , preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the Funeral Hour at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2015, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Rev. Dean West, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Karnak, IL, will officiate.
Interment will follow in IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Judes Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
