FRANCES W. JACKSON SLATEN, 97, of Charleston, died Saturday, February 8, 2020, at the Bertrand Nursing Center in Bertrand.
Born October 10, 1922, in Mississippi County, MO, to the late C.J. "Jody" Jackson and Maude Kidd Jackson, she had lived in Charleston most of her life where she and her husband owned and operated Slaten's Grocery a number of years and had worked as an Avon Representative. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charleston.
On June 22, 1950, she married Carlton Roy Slaten, who preceded her in death November 7, 1997.
Surviving are her children, Richard (Lucy) Slaten, Mary Frances (Russell) Summers, Carla (Carl) Riley and Eddie (Becky) Slaten; her grandchildren, Laura Odom, Scott Slaten, Joe Slaten, Chellie Burton, Tom Summers, Brandy Wotipka, Allahna Moore, Elizabeth Firchau, Mike Riley, Matthew Slaten and Emily Fay; 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Tessie Walker, Charles Jackson, Augusta Jackson, Joseph Jackson, Margaret Wheelen, Ella Moore, Evelyn Sanders, George Jackson and A.V. Jackson.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 13, 2020. The Rev. Mike McKinney, pastor of the Southside Baptist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: Scott Slaten, Joe Slaten, Tom Summers, Matt Slaten, Jerry Burton, Logan Burton and Nicholas Burton.
