FRANCES MARIE SLAYDEN, AGE 85, of Charleston, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at her home in Charleston.
Born July 31, 1933, at Charleston, MO, to the late Clem and Emma Gibbear Scheffer. A lifelong member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, she was a graduate of St. Henry Catholic School. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and had been a cook at the St. Henry School a number of years. The owner and operator of Slayden Upholstery until she retired, she was an avid bowler in her younger years and cherished her many friends.
Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family. She loved her family dearly. She was truly a blessing and will be missed tremendously.
On December 11, 1954, she married Gene Slayden, who preceded her in death on August 6, 2005.
Surviving are her son, Ronald G. (Cindy) Slayden of Charleston; her daughter, Sheila J. (Kenneth) Shankle of Charleston; grandchildren Tiffiny Shankle, Tabatha Shankle, Jennifer Slayden and Jessica Slayden; great grandchildren; Jaszmine Walton, Gabrielle Primm and Jayse Revelle; also, a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Francis Scheffer, Charles Scheffer, Lawrence Scheffer, Philomena Jones, Christine Senciboy, John Henry Scheffer, Margaret Proctor, Pauline Scheffer, Joseph Scheffer, Clem Sheffer, Jr. and Berissimo Scheffer.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until time for prayer services at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2018, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 30, 2018, at the St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston. Father David Dohogne, will serve as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
