Gary Allen "Buckwheat" Brown, age 67, of Charleston, Mo, died on November 7, 2024, at his home in Salem, Mo.

Born December 23, 1956, at Cairo, Ill to the late Roy Simpson Brown and Letha Vern Byford Brown.  Gary was a 1976 graduate of Charleston High School.  He lived in Charleston, Mo most of his life.  He served in the United States Air Force as a Heating Systems Specialist from 1983 to 1987.  Gary, worked at Jefferson City Correctional Center until 2001, he then worked at Southeast Correctional Center until his retirement in 2020 as a Stationary Engineer.    Gary loved working on anything he could get his hands on. He also collected coins and model trains.  He was very proud of his time in service, his career at the correctional center and being an electrician.

Surviving is his wife Donna Brown, his children Lyn Brown Lara of Denison, IA, Mikel (Kimber) Brown of Sikeston, Mo and Kerri (Shane) Walter of Jackson, Mo.; Louren Curtis, Elisha (Robert) Povilat and Dawn (Wesley) Hobson; 13 grandchildren, Jasmine, Arai, Lanie, Allie, Brycen and Oliver, Mona, Dante, Danny, Wayne, Connor, Aiden and Joscelynn. His brothers and sister, Jimmy (Melissa) Brown of Harland, IN., Paul (Tammy) Brown of Charleston, MO and Beverly Wilson of Charleston, MO, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his brothers George Brown and Wayne Brown, one nephew Robbie Wilson and one great niece Collins Grigsby.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 14, 2024, at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, MO.  Jimmy Brown will officiate.

Interment with full military honors will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO, under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
