Obituary

George D. Moorman Sr., 88, of Melbourne, FL, formerly of Sikeston, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

He was born Sept. 2, 1936, in Somerville, TN, to the late Meryl Hines Moorman and George C. Moorman.

George attended Memphis State where he met Margaret Lucille Dixon. They were united in marriage on Sept. 7, 1958, and were blessed to welcome three sons: Doan, Kenneth, and John. George, Margaret, and the three boys built a beautiful life together in Sikeston, Missouri.

George spent two years serving in the Army and was stationed in Tacoma, Washington and Germany.  George then had a successful professional career, spending 30 years at Malone and Hyde (later Fleming) in Sikeston, where he was known for his dedication and work ethic.

George's favorite places to visit, which provided him with many fond memories, included Wappapello Lake and Busch Stadium. He and Margaret cherished their time at their cabin on Wappapello, where they spent many days bass fishing and enjoying a cold Miller Lite. To know George was to know he was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan—through the high and low of every season, his loyalty never wavered.

After spending over 51 years adoring Margaret, the Lord called her home. George was later blessed with a second love in his life and joined Maggi Cook in marriage on July 30, 2011. Maggi and George spent their years together learning to love each other's sports teams—his beloved Cardinals and her Florida State Seminoles. They traveled together and cherished their blended family of six sons and their growing circle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Maggi proceeded George in death February 21, 2025.

George leaves behind his three sons and two daughters-in-law: George Doan Moorman Jr., Kenneth Clark and Janet Moorman, and John Robert and Alison Moorman; four grandchildren: Justin Moorman, Kyler (Bryan) Saffo, Kenneth (Michaela) Moorman, and Magdaline Moorman; and four great-grandchildren, Clara and Dominic Saffo, Amelia and Roger Moorman.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 12:00 p.m. (noon), Monday, May 12, 2025, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.  Rev. Jennifer Moxley, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston, will officiate.

Burial will be at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO at 2:00 p.m., under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the First United Methodist Church of Sikeston.
