Obituary

GEORGE WHITTAKER POLEY, Age 72, a resident of Sikeston, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016, in Scott City, MO.

Born July 25, 1943, at East Prairie, MO, to the late Robert William and Jen Nettie Burnes Poley, he had lived in Sikeston most of his life and was employed in construction. He had attended the New Beginnings Church and was a U.S. Army Veteran.

On March 21, 1987, he married Jo Ann Gadbury, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert (Megan) Poley of Benton and Charles Burgess of Lilbourn; five daughters, Melissa (Richard) Flentge and Georgia Poley of Cape Girardeau; Christy Parrish of Scott City; Jessica (Rowdy) Babb of Canalou and Crystal (Jason) Allgier of Ironton; three brothers, Floyd Poley of Anderson, SC; Delbert Poley of Matthews, MO and Robert Junior Poley of Arnold, MO; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Leonard Poley, Henry Poley, James Poley and Melvin Poley and by four sisters, Bealuh Everly, Christine Parker, Lola Hayden and Matilda Hedge.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m until the funeral hour at noon, Friday, January 29, 2016, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Thomas Smotherman, will officiate.

Interment will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield with full military graveside rites provided by the U.S. Army and the Missouri Military Honors Program.
