Obituary

GERALD DOUGLAS SUMMERS, Age 69, died Friday, February 3, 2017, at his home near Sikeston.

Born July 18, 1947, at Wyatt, MO, to the late George Melton Summers and Ruby Lee Hamilton Summers Johnson, he had lived in Wyatt, Charleston, East Prairie and then Sikeston. He had been employed as a carpenter and painter and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Surviving are his daughter, Jerry Lee Summers of Sikeston; two brothers, Russell Summers and David Summers of Sikeston; two grandchildren, Tyler-Raye Summers and Nicholas W. Summers-Welter both of Sikeston;also, one sister in law, Thelma Summers of East Prairie, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, Gerald Summers, II; two brothers, Clyde M. Summers and Corky Johnson; three sisters, Felecia Gail Summers, Frances Johnson Groves and Kathy Hebenstreit and his grandmother, Jenny Hamilton.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. A private memorial service with full Military Honors will follow at the family home near Sikeston.

And when he gets to Heaven to Saint Peter he will tell: "Just another soldier reporting, Sir. I've served my time in hell."
