Geraldine Burnes, 83, formerly of Sikeston, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017 at the South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, Mississippi.  She was born Feb. 3, 1934 in Portageville, Missouri to the late Samuel William and Nellie Mae (Collins) Thaxton.  She was married Jan. 4, 1961 in Portageville to Billie J. Burnes and he preceded her in death July 6, 1990.  She is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, William Samuel and Paula Jean Burnes of Laurel, Mississippi; 1 daughter, Terry Lee Sletten of New Madrid; and 1 sister, Glenda Alice Huffman of Pass Christian, Mississippi.  Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 1 brother and 3 sisters.  Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 25, at Blanchard Funeral Chapel from 11:00 am until 1:00 PM.  Graveside rites will be held at 2:00 pm at the Portageville Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be William Burnes, Sam Sexton, Brian Stokes, Robert Fields, Shaun Sletten and Kevin Sletten.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at blanchardfuneral.com.
