GERI DEAN

GERALDINE COX 'GERI' DEAN, age 89, of Charleston, died Saturday, October 10, 2020, at the home of her brother and sister in law in Charleston.

Born June 21, 1931, in Clay County, AR, to the late Clinen and Zella Mae Davis Cox, she had lived in Houston, TX before moving to Charleston in 2006 to be near family.   Always a cheerful and giving person, Geri was active in her church, Southside Baptist Church of Charleston, where she served in many capacities. She loved helping with church meals and looked forward to the church's annual mission trip to Eastern Kentucky. She volunteered with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile, was an election poll worker, at the Charleston Nutrition Center, the Charleston Baptist Association and the local food banks.

On November 7, 1951, at Rector, AR, she married Billy Douglas Dean, who preceded her in death on March 29, 2008. Her son, Jimmy Dean, preceded her in death on April 29, 2019.

Surviving is her brother, Garry (Susan) Cox of Charleston; her sisters, Jan Wilson and Virginia (Ted) Wimberley of Charleston, Lola Doty and Barbara Duty of Florida and Carolyn Shaw of Georgia; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Her brother in law, Rev. Ted Wimberley and Rev. Mike McKinney, pastor of the Southside Baptist Church of Charleston, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: Rocky Walker, Rocky Walker, II, Daniel McKinney, Richard Bray, John Ogle and Brenda Stallings.
