Born October 5, 1939, at Tuckerman, AR, to the late Grover David Brownfield and Vada Ann Sims Brownfield, he grew up in Charleston and was a 1958 graduate of Charleston High School. After his graduation, he attended the Draughon Business College in Memphis, Tn. Gordan would then embark on a lifelong career in Insurance. He spent over 25 years training and teaching classes in underwriting for agents of various insurance companies with the Life Underwriters Association of Maryland. He also taught continuing education classes for various insurance agents and companies in Missouri for a number of years. In 1979, he was nominated to be candidate for underwriter of the year.
For most of his life he had lived in Sikeston where he formerly attended the Nazarene Church, most currently attending Tanner Street Church of God when his health permitted. He was member and past president and had served on the state committee of the Jaycee's, was a member of the Eagles Club as well a member and officer for the Elks Club.
Surviving is his wife, Carolyn Yeakey Brownfield; his son, Barry L. Brownfield and a sister, Beatrice B. Pierce all of Sikeston as well as his sister and brother in law, Virginia (Tommy) Brack of Poplar Bluff, MO.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston.
