Guffrie W. Malugen, age 76, of Charleston, the son of the late Guffrie Sr. and Gertrude McGee Malugen, was born June 30, 1940 at Caruthersville, MO, and passed away at Life Care Center, Cape Girardeau, MO on May 27, 2017.
He graduated from Potosi High School where he participated in several sports. A journeyman electrician, he was a member of Local One, I. B. E. W. over 45 years. During his working years he was employed by several electrical contractors, and had worked on many large construction projects in Southeast MO and the St. Louis area. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially deer and turkey hunting trips with his sons, relatives, and close friends. He also loved fishing, camping, golfing, and gardening. He enjoyed sharing his garden produce with friends and neighbors. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Guffrie was a member of the Charleston United Methodist Church, Sikeston Elks Lodge, and the Charleston Country Club. He was also a member and officer of the former Charleston Jaycees.
Guffrie and Helen Lucy Richards were united in marriage on August 29, 1959, and she survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Lori Ann Malugen of St. Louis, David Malugen of Herculaneum, and one daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Scott Wiley of Columbus, Ohio. Also, are his 'special' granddaughters, Elizabeth, Emily, Abby, Ellie, Lillian Malugen and Caroline Wiley; his 'buddy', grandson Chase Wiley. Three brothers survive; James and Carol Malugen, Charleston, Warren and Barbara Malugen, Cape Girardeau, Wayne and Ginna Malugen, Potosi and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Johnny Malugen, and two sisters, Erma Vaughan and Joan Blair.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. J. Robert Webster, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: Kevin Malugen, Jamie Malugen, Mark Malugen, Brian Blair, Jeremy Malugen, John Malugen, Scott Brink and Steven Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Charleston United Methodist Church, The I.O.O.F. Cemetery, or the Charleston Nutrition Center.
