HAROLD RICHARD COX, age 86, a resident of rural Charleston, died Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Charleston Manor.
Born September 8, 1929 to the late Roy Richard and Jessie Organ Cox, he had lived in Mississippi County his entire life. He worked at Brown Shoe for 43 years until his retirement. Following his retirement he established a lawn mowing service with his grandson. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, a member of the Bridges United Methodist Church and was a US Air Force veteran.
On September 1, 1951 he married Sally Joyce Thurman who preceded him in death on May 22, 2004.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Jennifer Gibson of Piggott, AR, Kristin (Kevin) Crawford of Dexter, and Daniel Cox of Morley; two brothers, Adon Cox of Charleston and Tommy (Joyce) Cox of Commerce; three sisters, Phyllis Williams of St. Louis, Nancy Kindle of Morehouse, and Libby Stracener of Charleston; also 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his two sons, John David Cox and Harold Cox; one great grandson, Logan Crawford; two brothers, Roy G. Cox and Marty Cox; and two sisters, Glenda Boone and Janet Baker.
Visitation will be held at the McMikle Funeral Home on Thursday, October 29, 2015, from 9:00 am until the Funeral Hour at 11:00. Rev. Gerald Penn, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Charleston, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
