Obituary

On February 19,2020, Harriett Goodin Small went to Heaven. She left this Earth letting go of her oldest granddaughter Ginnie B. 's hand and took ahold of Daddy Bud's-while surrounded with love from her daughter Janice and granddaughter Gretchen.

Harriett was born in Charleston, MO, June 23, 1938, to the late Oliver F. Goodin and Lucille Feezor Goodin Sprague. She was their only daughter and the apple of their eye. She was raised in Charleston along with her two adording brothers- James "Jimmy" Goodin of Cape Girardeau and Oliver "Bubber" Goodin of Norman, Oklahoma. Harriett always said she got her feisty spirit from dealing with two brothers.

From early on Harriett formed friendships that lasted a lifetime Janie Banta-Hopkins, Karen Ellis-Brown, "Sisser" Goodin-Austin, Carolyn Howell-Fox, Jane Cooper-Stacy, and Marilyn Story-Gill just to name a few. Childhood stories were often enjoyed by her family.

Harriett graduated from Charleston High School in 1956. While in high school she was a homecoming attendant, a cheerleader, and Valentine Queen. She was a member of the Junior Study Club, several bridge clubs, and served a term as president at the Mollie French Garden Club.

On March 10, 1957, Harriett wed her high school sweetheart and best friend James Brackston "Bud" Small who preceded her in death on September 24, 2017. They grew up together and raised three children Jamie, Janice, and Jeff.

They devoted their lives to their family. Harriett worked beside her husband in the family business Small Lumber Company. She also co-owned and operated Small Wonders Preschool where she loved and spoiled the children with meals of fried chicken and homemade bread. ("Miss Mamaw" was treasured by the children there and became a community grandmother to many.) Her love and loyalty to her family is one that could not be surpassed.

Being a grandmother and great-grandmother were her favorite accomplishments in life. "Once for all and all for one" was a motto instilled in her grandchildren. Family was everything to Harriett and she devoted her all to raising her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her brothers Jimmy (Carolyn) Goodin of Cape Girardeau, Oliver "Bubber" (Ann) Goodin of Norman, Oklahoma.
