HAZEL DODGEN BRUMLEY, age 86, died Saturday, September 4, 2021, at her residence in East Prairie.

She was born December 25, 1934 in Lonoke, AR to John Wesley and Lora Beatrice McLean Dodgen.  Her family moved from AR to Wyatt in 1945 then she moved to East Prairie in 1964. She had been employed as office manager with Coon Insurance Company in Charleston for over 40 years until her retirement.  She was a member of the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church in East Prairie where she had served in many capacities including serving as Chairperson for the Administrative Board, Sunday School teacher, a member of the Chancel Choir and the Handbells. In addition to her church, she was active in service to her community serving on the Mississippi County Board of Health, East Prairie Garden Club, the Sikeston Community Choir, and participated in the development and management of the Prairie Groves Apartment Complex.

On May 5, 1955 she married David Brumley who preceded her in death on December 3, 1985.

Surviving are her children, Laurie Brumley of East Prairie and Dr. David Wayne Brumley of Duxbury MA; two grandchildren, Colin Brumley of Boston, MA and Annie Brumley of New York, NY; four sisters, Louise Weakley of Sandwich, IL., Jean Ashley of Greenbrier TN, Vivian Harris of Kearney and Carolyn Sue Young of Mentor, OH.

She was preceded in death her parents, husband, and two brothers, Joe Dodgen and John Wesley "Pete" Dodgen, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church in East Prairie from 1:00 pm until the funeral hour at 3:00 p.m.  Rev. Chandler Landis, pastor, will officiate.

Interment Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
