Obituary

HELEN COUNCIL HERWIG, Age 82, a resident of Charleston, died at 4:19 p.m., Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Charleston Manor.

Born July 3, 1927, at Diehlstadt, MO, to the late Forest S. and and Gladys Treacy Harwell Council, she had lived in Mississippi County most of her life where she was a charter member of the Southside Baptist Church and a former member of the Charleston VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

On September 20, 1946, she married Harry W.J. Herwig, who preceded her in death on January 26, 1995.

Surviving are: three daughters and two sons in law, Harriet Small and Kathleen and Larry Secoy all of Charleston and Katherine and Johnny Leffler of Paducah, KY; four grandchildren, Sheila (James) McGill, Matt (Ashley) Leffler, and Amanda (Chad) Futrell all of Paducah, KY, and Kevin (Christy) Small of East Prairie; and seven great grandchildren, Rylyn Small, Coy Small, Samuel Small, Taylor McGill, Dawson McGill, Holton McGill, Jack Futrell.

One great granddaughter, Kaelyn Marie McGill; one sister, Betty Jean Simmons and three brothers, Lloyd Council, Edward Council and Leon Council, preceded her in death.

Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston until the Funeral Hour at 1:00 p.m. Jon Archie, pastor of the Elm Street Baptist Church of Charleston, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Samuel Howard, Seth Stephenson, Tom Humphrey, Charlie Marcum, Alvin Marcum, and Tom Nolen.

Honorary Pallbearer will be Bill Brashers.
