HOWARD DOUGLAS "Doug" GRIGGS, Age 82, a resident of Chicago, IL and formerly of Mississippi County, MO, died Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, IL.

Born August 3, 1927 at Wyatt, MO to the late Lee Nathan and Jettie Brown Griggs, he had lived in Chicago, IL a number of years where he was employed with the Central Scentific Company for 45 years. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

On September 28, 1948, he married Dorothy C. Bogart, who preceded him in death April 30, 2007.

Surviving are: Two sons, Gary Griggs and Darren Griggs both of Chicago; one daughter, Diane Griggs Petrov of Chicago; four brothers, Nathan Griggs of Brawley, CA; Morris Griggs, Richard Griggs and Sam Griggs all of Charleston; two sisters, Virginia Moss of Charleston and Imra Crecelius of Avondale, AZ; three grandchildren, Darcy Elkin Rojas, Danny Griggs, Justin Griggs all of Chicago; one great grandson, Derick Elkin of Chicago.
Also, a special friend, Ginger McDermott of Charleston, Mo.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Daryl Charles Griggs; one grandson, Christopher Griggs Salas; two brothers, Leonard Griggs and Robert Lee Griggs; and one sister, Earlene Griggs Manar.

Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 22, 2009.

Interment will follow in the Smith-Griggs Cemetery near Wyatt, MO under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: David Griggs, Alan Griggs, Scott Brink, Mike Griggs, Steven Griggs and Josh McMikle.
