HORACE VINSON "H.V." MORROW, died Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston at the age of 93.
Born November 6, 1927, at Red Bay, AL, to the late David and Lucille Vinson Morrow, he was a graduate of Red Bay High School and a 1951 graduate of Auburn University. A U.S. Air Force Veteran, he served four years as a flight mechanic during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1957. He married Joyce Bostick of Golden, MS on June 13, 1948, and had two children, Tim and Susan.
In 1957, he brought his family to Bertrand, MO and began farming. He was one of the first farmers in Southeast Missouri with irrigation.
On January 21, 1979, H.V. married Betty Jean Floyd, and they remained together until his death.
H.V. was quite a businessman. He was a successful farmer, cattle rancher and ran a cross country trucking business with terminals in Bertrand and Fontana, CA. H.V.'s true passion though was being a cattle rancher. He operated cattle ranches in Missouri, Kentucky and Mississippi. He owned property in Paraguay and helped establish a cattle ranch there as well. He won the Houston livestock show 13 years in a row with his championship caliber bulls. He was named the Mississippi Cattleman of the Year in 1998.
He also loved cutting horses, having one of his horses finish 3 rd in the nation. He was involved with sprint cars for years. He also participated and traveled with his son Tim, who raced dirt bikes for years. You could say H.V. had a passion for life as you can see by his achievements.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Morrow; his son, Tim (Sandra) Morrow; his daughter, Susan (Stan) Oakley; two grandchildren, Timothy and Leigh Oakley; and numerous great grandchildren; also, two sisters, Marvaline Stanphill and Julia Weber both of Florence, AL.
Family and friends gathered to lay him to rest near his parents, David and Lucille Morrow, Friday, September 3, 2021, at Halltown Cemetery outside of Redbay, AL.
