Obituary

HARDY WILSON "H" DUKE, JR., Age 88, left this world and went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 11, 2015.

Born April 23, 1927, in Mitchellville, IL, son of the late Hardy Wilson Duke, Sr. and Daisy Cummins Duke, Mr. Duke was a long time resident of the Dogwood Community where he managed the Dogwood Store for 34 years and owned H. Duke Seed Company for several years after. He was a member of the Dogwood United Methodist Church and the Charleston Masonic Lodge No. 407 AF and AM. He loved to fish and worked in his garden a long side his wife.

On November 5, 1949, he married Laley "Lala" Cheney, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Gail Duke of New Madrid and Keith and Donna Duke of Matthews; one daughter, Phyllis McKinley of Dogwood; two sisters, Alfreda Matthews of Edwardsville, IL and Yvonne Mier of Alton, IL; two grandsons, Kyle (Valerie) Duke of Ballwin, MO and Ryan McKinley of East Prairie; two granddaughters, Natalie (Jim) Gordon of Chambersburg, PA and Tara McKinley of East Prairie; one great granddaughter, Shelby Johnson of Tuscumbia, AL and three great grandsons Cooper, Colton and Layne McKinley of East Prairie; also a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Cletus Duke and James Duke; one sister, Myrtis Burris and one infant sister.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 13, 2015, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where the funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., August 14, 2015. Rev. Jerry Turner, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Duke, Ryan McKinley, Joe Jenkins, David Duke, Randy Duke and Tim Wagner.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Barnett, Bill Lough, Danny Whitten, Jack Britt, Buddy Russell, Jim Bishop, Dickie Nelson and J.W. Nelson.
