Obituary

JACK GORDON CHAPMAN, 74, of Bertrand, Missouri was called to his heavenly Father on Sunday, August 21, 2011.

Jack was born on December 6, 1936 in DeKalb, Texas to Albert Benjamin (A.B.) and Clarice Clark Chapman. His love and passion for wood-working began as a young man. He graduated from Anniston High School in 1956 where he was a member of the basketball team.
After graduating, Jack began his career in the hardware and lumber business at Byrd's Lumber Company as a bookkeeper.

After many years of service, with his dream of starting his own business, Jack owned and operated Mississippi County Lumber Company until its closing in 1981. He was then offered a Senior Sales' consultant position at E.C. Barton Company of Sikeston, Missouri and later became manager until his retirement.

Jack was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher. He was a Boy Scout leader, member of Kiwanis Club, and a member of the Masonic Lodge where he held a 32nd degree. He also sponsored little league baseball and enjoyed taking the team to an end-of-the-season Saint Louis Cardinal's game. His favorite hobbies included spending time with his family, boating and camping, wood-working, collecting and refinishing antiques, and gardening.

On December 29, 1956, Jack married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann Jackson.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his children: Bruce and Marilyn Chapman of East Prairie, Missouri, Judi Rollins of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Brice and Michelle Chapman of Ava, Missouri; grandchildren: Micah Givens, Bruce Chapman II, Natalie Wescoat, Christopher Chapman, Maryssa Whitaker, Rebecca Rollins, Katherine Rollins, Benjamin Chapman, and Caroline Rollins; great-grandchildren: Hayli Chapman, Meridyth Givens, Peyton Givens, Lauren Wescoat, Bella Chapman, and Hayden Whitaker; sister: Janeen Cheatham and husband Bryce of Magnolia, Arkansas; sister-in-law: Carol Chapman of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; father-in-law: Harvie Jackson of East Prairie, Missouri; sister-in-laws: Ruth Watson and husband Billy of Charleston, Missouri, and Janice Nolen and husband Jimmy of Bertrand, Missouri.
