Obituary

JAMES WILLIS OLIVER, Age 91, a resident of Morehouse, departed this life and went to be with Jesus, Friday, December 1, 2017, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

Born April 22, 1926, in the Birds Corner Community north of Gray Ridge, MO, to the late William Monroe and Maggie Abbott Oliver, he had lived in Morehouse a number of years.
From 1950 to 1953, he worked at Century Electric in St. Louis and then from 1953-1988, he worked at Himmelberger-Berger in Morehouse until he was his retirement. He had the nickname of "Sleepy" because his co-workers said he did his job so well he could do it in his sleep.

He was a God-fearing Christian man who loved going to church and loved gospel music. He also loved his family and friends, and would do anything he could to help anyone.

On December 28, 1950, he married Dorothy Virginia Ford, who survives of the home in Morehouse. They were married 67 years.

Also surviving are eight children, Barbara Hartwick of Sikeston, Jimmie Dale Oliver of St. Louis, Judy Russell of Wappapello, MO, Phyllis Carlton of Morehouse, MO, Darlene Vance of Maramduke, AR, David Oliver of San Antonio, TX, Carol Allen of Oran, MO and also his son, Calvin Monroe Oliver; one brother, Lindell Oliver of Dothan, AL; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, several step grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, two daughters, Vicki Lynn Oliver and Glenda Kaye Oliver, preceded him in death.
