JAMES LOWELL STEWART, age 88, died Saturday, August 8, 2015, at his home near East Prairie.
He was born December 24, 1926, in East Prairie, to the late Joel "Chisel" and Thelma Wallace Stewart. He lived in East Prairie most of his life, enlisting in the US Navy to serve in WW II. Following his first tour of duty he re-enlisted and served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, retiring in 1970. Following his discharge, he returned to East Prairie and worked a short time with Inland Oil company at their Mississippi River operation until accepting a position at Noranda where he worked until his retirement in 1991.
In December 1971, he married Effie Louise Lowery, who survives of the
home.
Also surviving are four sons, Jim (Cheryl) Anderson and Stanley G. Anderson all of Tulalip, WA, Gary Tatum of Sikeston, and William D. (Marcie) Tatum of East Prairie; eight daughters, Mary Jackson and Brenda Hawk both of Tulalip, WA, Evelyn (Sal) Fiandaca of DeKalb, IL, Shirley (Larry) Mueller of Key Largo, FL, Debbie Tatum, and Janice (Randy) Hale all of Sikeston, Denise (Bobby) Chewning of Murphysboro, IL, and Diane Tatum of Carbondale, IL; one brother, Mike (Carol) Stewart of Scott City, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Darlene Hall, one grandson, Damon Tatum, two brothers, Bill Stewart and Glynn Stewart, and one sister, Betty Stewart.
Visitation will be held in the McMikle Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the Funeral Hour at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2015.
Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Missouri Military Honors Program.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Brashear, Todd Cain, Wesley Harvell, Bobby D. Chewning, Eric Williams and Maurice Tatum.
