James William "Jim" Smith, age 81, died Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at his home in rural Charleston.

Born October 2, 1941, at Advance, MO, to the late William Junior Smith and Margie Louise Magee Smith, he had lived in rural Mississippi county most of his life and was engaged in farming.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

On January 23, 1988, he married Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Meyer, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are his children, Elizabeth Ann (Brian) Lowe of Sikeston, Wendy (Bobby) Couch of Benton, Terry Clifton of Charleston, Jama Smith of Doniphan, James William (Maren) Smith, Jr. of Drexel, MO and Jeremy Lee Smith of Dexter; his sister, Kathy (Charles) Allred of Sikeston;  17 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one on the way, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy Eugene Smith, Robert Smith and Donald Smith and his sister, Becky Hancock.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 23, 2023, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.  Kenneth Gibson of Wyatt, will officiate.

Interment with full military honors will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston.
