Janet Lee Gierer Leavitt, age 69, of Sikeston, died Friday, June 23, 2023, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born December 31, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Melvin L. Gierer and Emma Leona Faddis Gierer, she grew up in St. Louis and moved to Sikeston over 20 years ago.   She was an active volunteer at the Sikeston Senior Citizens Center.

On June 6, 1988, she married Richard W. Leavitt, who preceded her in death on December 18, 2010.

Surviving are her children, Christopher G. Tripp and Deric M. Tripp and Bridget (Marrisa) Leavitt all of Sikeston; her grandchildren, A.J. Keefe of Sikeston and Sky Leavitt of St. Louis; also, a number of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her stepson, Richard Dean Leavitt.

Janet will be laid to rest at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery next to her husband Richard.
