Obituary
JOHN E. "J.E." McMINN, JR., age 91, a resident of Charleston, died Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at the Charleston Manor.
Born October 27, 1925, in Melbourne, FL, to the late John Ethel McMinn, Sr. and Cornelia Love Childers McMinn, he moved to Missouri at an early age, living in the Windyville community of Mississippi County, and was a 1943 graduate of East Prairie High School. He was first employed with the Hopgood Implement Company in East Prairie and in 1957 moved to Charleston where he was employed with the Simmons Equipment Company for 32 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was a member of the Charleston V.F.W. Post No. 4294.
On July 15, 1950, he married Cora Lee Schneider, who preceded him in death February 27, 2013.
Surviving is one son, John McMinn of Charleston; two daughters, Georgia Gremillion and Janet (Bruce) DeField both of Charleston; one sister, Norma Jean Barnes of East Prairie; six grandchildren, Beth Ann Bond, Justin (Sarah) Gremillion, Ben Gremillion, Andrew (Ann) DeField, Jarrett (Becky) Bond and Allison (Ian) Rich; three great grandchildren, Marco and Mack Gremillion and Benjamin DeField.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, William Eric Bond and Todd Duffey McMinn; two brothers, Thomas Rye McMinn and James Cleburn McMinn and by one sister, Joyce Ann Howlett.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, MO. Graveside services will immediately follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston. Rev. J. Robert Webster, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate. The United States Army and the Missouri Military Honors program will provide full military honors.
Pallbearers will be: Justin Gremillion, Ben Gremillion, Jarrett Bond, Andrew DeField, Dylan Smith and Charlie Turner.
