Obituary

JEFF T. SHOFFNER, age 100, went to heaven, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at his home in rural Charleston.

Born August 9, 1917, at Ashland, MS, to the late Tom and Minnie B. Kizer Shoffner, he grew up in the Holly Springs, Mississippi area moving to Mississippi County, MO in 1941. A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theatre from 1943 to 1945 in the infantry and as a cook. A master of many trades, in his lifetime he served as a police officer, owned and operated a Shell Service Station and Café in Charleston, studied at the Memphis School of Aeronautics and worked with the CC Camp in Mississippi building roads and bridges. For a number of years he was master carpenter and builder having been a member of the Local Carpenter's union and was engaged in farming. In 1945, he joined the New Bethel Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including deacon and trustee. As a member of the Charleston Baptist Association Board, he served on the committee that maintained the Association's Campgrounds. He was a 32 degree Mason and a member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge No. 407 AF & AM where he served in various capacities including Worshipful Master. As a member of the Eastern Star he served in many offices including Worthy Patron for East Prairie, Charleston, Sikeston, and Morehouse chapters.

On September 10, 1938, he married Hattie Elizabeth Warren, the love of his life, who preceded him in death on December 22, 2008.

Surviving are one son and daughter in law, Johney and Wanda Shoffner of rural Charleston; two grandsons, Rod (Lucianne) Shoffner of Munford, TN and Terry (Karen) Shoffner of rural Charleston.
Four great grandchildren, Loralee Shoffner, Katijane Shoffner, Brittney Shoffner and Brian Shoffner; one great great grandson, Kaden Brian Shoffner; and many nieces and nephews of Mississippi.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 24, 2017, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Rev. Ted Wimberley, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Brent Hupp, Jack Feezor, Dale Glenn, Arnold McAfee, Ken Stevenson and Daryle Caid.
