Obituary

Jeffery Goodin Small left this Earth on August 8, 2023, from St. Clare hospital in Fenton, MO.

Jeff was born December 3, 1966, to James B. "Bud" Small, Jr. and Harriett Goodin Small.  He was the paternal grandson of James B. Small, Sr. and Ethel Daniel Small and maternal grandson of Oliver F. Goodin and Lucille Feezor Goodin Sprague.

Jeff attended Charleston Sr. High and graduated in 1985.  He was an active athlete while in high school being a member of the CHS Blue Jays Football Club, the Wrestling team and track and field. Jeff attended Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) and while a student there, he met the love of his life and best friend, Kimberly Dawn Schlitt (Small).  The two were united in marriage in a beautiful ceremony on March 20, 1993.

Soon after marriage the couple relocated to Mississippi County where Jeff joined the family business, Small Lumber Company in partnership with his father, Bud, and brother Jamie Small. While attending SEMO, Jeff worked with troubled youth at a Weiser Group Home and Central Hardware and Riverside Lumber.

Jeff was instrumental in the addition of a Radio Shack franchise and making the store, Small Lumber and Electronics.

On October 24, 1995, Jeff and Kim welcomed their beautiful daughter Lillianne Mae Small.  Jeff loved few things as he did his family and extended family.

If there was an event or game any of Jeff's nieces or nephews and later GREAT nieces and nephews were involved in, you were guaranteed to see "Bubba G" in attendance. Bubba G and later renamed by the youngest generation "Bubble Geeze" was certainly the definition of a "Funcle", an uncle, only much cooler.

Jeff was always civic minded and held a seat on several boards.  A member of The First Baptist Church, Jeff was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Mississippi County Ambulance Board, Wyatt Fire Department, Kiwanis Club and the Charleston Chamber of Commerce board.

Jeff was very instrumental in keeping the little league Football team in Charleston.  Volunteering his time and talents to coach for many years.  During this time, he coached his nephews, Garrison and JB.  Garrison Eastman obtained Jeff's high school number 63 and retained that jersey number throughout his high school career in honor of his Uncle Jeff. Jeff also coached his daughter's basketball team at St. Henrys, where he enjoyed coaching Lilly and her friends.

Jeff always offered a helping hand, kind words, and prayer for anyone in need.

Jeff's last act of service to mankind was being a heart valve donor.  This type of donation is for children and Jeff met the criteria.  He would have loved nothing more than to save the life of a child, which he did.

From his survivors, family and friends, life well done Jeff…well done indeed!

To say that Jeff's presence will be missed is such an understatement.  Rest in Heaven, Jeff, we love you.
