Jerry Lee "Pappy" Eakins, 89, died Sunday, Feb. 25, at Hunter Acres Caring Center in Sikeston. He was born May 31, 1928 in Cape Girardeau to the late Mattie B. (Proffer) Eakins Hampton and Rosco Luther Eakins. On April 10, 1948 he was married to Ramona Lee Propst in Sikeston and she preceded him in death Aug. 16, 1994. He had worked at Paul's Heating & Plumbing, Propst Mobile Homes and then served as Deputy with the Scott County Sheriff's Department until his retirement. He was a member of MARS--Ham Radio Operators, Auxiliary Policeman with Sikeston D.P.S., Sikeston Jaycees, Scott Co. Sheriff Reserves and was a commissioned Deputy Sheriff for Scott County. He is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Lindell P. and Terry Eakins of Sikeston; and 2 daughters, Dianna Moit of Bertrand and Mary Lou Farmer of Sikeston. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-greatgrandson. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by 1 grandchild, 1 great-grandchild, 1 brother and 3 sons-in-law. Visitation will be at Blanchard Funeral Chapel Thursday, March 1, from 11:00 am until time for services at 1:00 pm. Rev. Dewayne Coleman, pastor of Canalou Baptist Church will officiate and burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Pallbearers will be from the Scott County Sherifff Department: Sheriff Wes Drury, Captain Dane Stausing, Captain Ron Merideth, Captain Ryan Dennis, Lt. Charles Pratt and Deputy Mark Carbaugh.
