Jewel (Beck) Harber, 92, died at her home in Sikeston Sunday, June 30, 2013. She was born Aug. 15, 1920 at the Big Opening Community south of Sikeston to the late Birdie (Duke) and Sprurlin Beck, Sr. and was the last of their twelve children. She graduated from Matthews High School and received both Bachelor of Science and Master degrees from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. On May 14, 1942 she was married to Warren G. Harber in Sikeston and he survives of the home. Other survivors include 3 daughters: Deidre and Dr. Donald Cotton of Joplin, MO, Sharon and Blair Moran of Sikeston and Andrea Trent of Tyler, Tx.; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 4 sisters-in-law. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by 6 brothers and 5 sisters. Mrs. Harber began her teaching career in 1940 at Fairview School in New Madrid County. She taught in the Sikeston Independent School District from 1956-1960 and second grade at both South Grade School and Southwest Elementary School. She was an active member of North Acres General Baptist Church and the local chapter of Missouri Retired Teachers Association. Visitation will be from 11:00 am Wednesday, July 3, 2013 until time for services at 1:00 pm at Blanchard Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lester Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Major Brent Cotton, Rachel Dorst, Bethany Moran, Carmen Carpenter and Guy Trent.
