Mr. Jimmie Dale (Jim) Batton was born May 26, 1932, at Chanoia, Missouri, the son of the late Evertt and Alma Sollars Batton, and passed away peacefully on June 16, 2022, at his home in Orange Park, Florida, after a five year heroic battle with Alzheimer's.
He moved to St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of ten with his family. Along with his brothers Sonny and Leon, he took up amateur boxing and was the recipient of the Golden Gloves Award. His education continued at Hadley Technical High School where he graduated in 1950
Jim married Norma Jean Nicholson, in 1952. They moved to Blytheville, Arkansas, in 1959, with their four children, where he worked as a Mechanical Engineer, at Randall, a division of Textron Industries, as well as, teaching evening classes at Delta College in Osceola, Arkansas. He served faithfully as a Deacon of the Presbyterian Church. He traveled extensively for work and piloted his own plane
In 1973, as Vice President, he was responsible for the opening of Pyramid, a division of Indian Head, in Green Cove Springs, Florida. He was a very active member of Rotary Club, served on the Board of the local Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Development Authority. He dedicated a great amount of time serving in the community
In 1977, he was promoted to Vice President of Operations at Pyramid Headquarters, in Detroit, Michigan. In 1980, he founded Industrial Tool & Die and returned to Florida where his customers included the Automotive and Transportation Industries and the US Government
Jim was an avid golfer, who thoroughly enjoyed living on the St. Johns River, in Orange Park, Florida, as well as, at his home in Dogwood, Missouri. He loved traveling the world with his family and found great joy in spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Norma Jean; their three daughters, Patricia Addy, Karen Morris and Cheryl Gildner; six grandchildren, Heath Gill-Valdez, Alycia Valdez, Nicole Valdez (Mike) Brindisi, Christina Valdez (David) Coldiron, John Morris and Michael Batton; and four great grandchildren, Hazel Coldiron, Clara Coldiron, Sergio Brindisi and Alex Brindisi.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jimmie Dale Batton.
The family will receive friends
from 1:00 PM
until the funeral hour
at 2 :00 PM, Thursday, June 23, 2022
, at the Dogwood United Methodist Church. Pastor Chandler Landis, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston, Missouri.
