Jimmy Eugene Payne, 84, died in Hickman County, Kentucky, Tuesday, March 4, 2014. He was born Sept. 11, 1929 in Corning, Arkansas to the late John Wesley and Lola Madeline (Flannigan) Payne. A resident of this area since 1961, he had previously lived in Ypsilanti, Mich. He was a retired self-employed carpenter and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Henry Meldrum Post of the American Legion and was also a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. He was first married to Betty DeHart and later on Jan. 25, 1963 he married Joyce Sue Butler at Blodgett and she preceded him in death on Feb. 28. 2011. He is survived by 1 son & daughter-in-law, Terrence and Debra Payne of Sikeston; 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law: JoAnne & Ken Freeman and Jeanna Bilderback & friend, Jim Mester all of Sikeston; 1 sister, Louise Stephens of Boonville, Mo. Six grandchildren; Heather J. Crider, Amanda Tubbs, Gretchen Payne, Ashley Adrian, Michael Penley and Christine Hitt and 18 great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Freddie Eugene Payne, 1 granddaughter, Samantha Fitzgerald and by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be at Blanchard Funeral Chapel from 5:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel at 12 noon Friday with Russell Rice minister at the Blodgett Church of Christ officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at 2:00 pm at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
