Obituary
J.L. GROVES, age 81, a resident of Benton, formerly of Wyatt, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born September 8, 1934 in Bertrand to the late John Wallace and Mattie Virginia Brashears Groves, he moved to Wyatt in 1944 where he lived until moving to Benton in 1998. He was employed with the Millwright Union Local #716 and traveled to work assignments locally and around the United States for many years. In 1981 he accepted a position at the Sikeston Power Station where he worked until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the Wyatt Baptist Church and after moving to Benton, transferred his membership to the Diehlstadt General Baptist Church.
On February 6, 1954 he married Rayola Essary who survives of the home.
Also surviving are three children, Linda (Blaine) Adams of Jackson, Jackie (Cindy) Groves of Diehlstadt, and John "Johnny" (Carla) Groves of Benton; one brother, Richard Groves of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Dixie Brazis of O'Fallon; 6 grandchildren, Jack (Amanda) Groves of Scott City, Jennifer (Lee) Merideth, John Leon Groves, and Jessica Groves all of Benton, Christopher (Staci) Pike and Montana Adams all of Jackson; 11 great grandchildren, Lauren, Logan, Natalie, Annabel, Corie, Riley, Remi, Vaeda, Devon, Jayse and Jaide; also 2 great great grandchildren, Izabel and Miley Kuykendall.
In addition to his parent, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Terry Groves, Gregory Groves, and Carl Groves; and one sister, Patsy Grisso.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the Funeral Hour at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016, at the Diehlstadt General Baptist Church. Dwayne Kirkpatrick, pastor of the Diehlstadt General Baptist Church, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be, Christopher Pike, Lee Merideth, Jack Groves, James Redcloud, Keith Elliott, and Warren Palmer.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
