JO ANN MATHIS BURK, Age 72, a resident of Anna, IL and formerly Charleston, MO, died Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, IL.

Born June 25, 1940, at Wyatt, MO, to the late J.R. and Maudie Ardella Barber Mathis, she had lived in Anna a number of years where she had been employed as an LPN at Choate Mental Health Center. A graduate of the Sikeston LPN Program, she had worked in the Emergency room at Missouri Delta Medical Center, the Charleston Manor prior to moving to Anna. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anna.

On July 22, 1959, she married Joe Ed Burk, who preceded her in death on August 8, 2004.

Surviving is: three sons, Michael Burk of Vandenburg, CA; Terry Joe Burk of Edwardsville, IL and Gregory Dale Burk of Anna, IL; four sisters, Betty Ruth Passley and Debra Ward of Fredricksburg, VA; Donna Marshall of York, SC and Tammy Hale of Benton. Five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, J.R. Stevens Mathis and one sister, Alice Jean Decatur.

Visitation will be from noon until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the McMikle Funeral Home at Charleston. Rev. Dan Faust, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
