Obituary

The Rev. Carolyn Jo Vowels Ponder, 80, of Southlake, TX, died Monday, August 15, 2022

"Jo" was born May 22, 1942, in Cairo, Illinois, to the late Edwin and Betty Barnbrook Vowels.  After growing up in Charleston, Missouri, she studied at Ole Miss, and received undergraduate degrees from both Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Dallas Baptist University. She received her Master of Divinity from Texas Christian University's Brite Divinity School.

Jo married her high school sweetheart, Charles Lee Ponder, and they have three children, Steve, Lori Ann (Jim) Moravec and Charles Lee "Pete", Jr.

One of her family's endeavors was to endow the Ponder Memorial Prayer Chapel in honor of her late husband Lee and son Pete on the campus of White's Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake.  Jo was honored to serve at White's Chapel for 26 years.

Jo was beloved at White's Chapel. She was known for her Southern hospitality and her love for the arts.  She was an excellent pastor, preacher and teacher.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Charles Lee Ponder and her sons, Pete and Steve, preceded her in death.

Surviving is her daughter, Lori Ann, her three grandchildren, Jolee, Olivia, and Lawren; her sister, Ann McCuiston; as well as several great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2022, at White's Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Jo V. Ponder Memorial Fund at White's Chapel or a charity of the donor's choice.
