JO ANN LEPCHENSKE QUERTERMOUS, age 87, died on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at her home in Bertrand.
She was born August 13, 1933 in Charleston to Dora "Sally" Russell Lepchenske Wilmurth and was raised by her mother and stepfather, Glenn "Chick" Wilmurth in Bertrand. Following her graduation with the Class of 1951 from Charleston High School, she worked at the Bank of Sikeston until the US Army stationed her husband at Fort Ervin, CA. She transferred with her husband as he was stationed in Fort Carson in Colorado and Fort Knox in Kentucky. Upon completion of his enlistment, they returned to Southeast Missouri where she resumed employment at the Bank of Sikeston. She later accepted the position of Assistant Postmaster for the Bertrand Post Office and became a rural mail carrier for several years until her retirement. She had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Bertrand since she was 5 years old. She had served as Chairman of the Administrative Board, church secretary, and in various other capacities.
On January 23, 1953 she married Dennis Ray Quertermous who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two sons, Denny Ray Quertermous of Jackson, MS and Keith Quertermous of Bertrand; and one grandson, Dennis Ray "Dee" Quertermous III of Jackson, MS.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Clark Quertermous; and one brother, Bill Lepchenske.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 11:00 am until the funeral hour at 1:00 pm. Paullester Walker, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Bertrand, and Travis Quertermous of Thayor, MO, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Ray "Dee" Quertermous III, Kirk Chronister, Dick Bethune, Kevin White, Daniel White, and Donald Clark.
