JOSEPH TENNESSEE "JOE" JACKSON, Age 72, a resident of Charleston, died Thursday, January 21, 2016, at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, MO.
He was born June 18, 1943 in Charleston to the late Joseph T. and Mary Elizabeth "Sue" Cothran Jackson. A 1961 graduate of Charleston High School, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. In 1966, he joined the National Teachers Corp. in Miami, Florida. Through the years he worked for various government agencies in Florida. In 2000, he retired from his Administrator position at the City Department of Community Improvement in Tallahassee, and he returned to Charleston to live in 2008. He was a member of MENSA and the National Association of Public Administrators.
On August 26, 1961 he married Darlene Jones who survives of the home.
Also surviving are one son, Joseph Kevin (Heather) Jackson of Sikeston; one daughter, Marcia A. Jackson (Charles) Walker of Kansas City; six grandchildren, Amanda Lewellen, Kyle Jackson, Benjamin Hammler, Jonathan Hammler, Emily Hammler, and Jasmine Adams; also one great grandson, Alexander Jackson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Sue Jackson Emard.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016, at the McMikle Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Gerald Penn, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Charleston will officiate.
