John Leon Groves, 37, of Cape Girardeau, died Thursday, September 23, 2021, near Rockview, Mo.

John was born on October 14, 1983, in Cape Girardeau, MO, to the late Jackie Groves and Ruthy (Sackberger) Groves Klein who survives of Cairo, IL.

John enjoyed baseball, which he excelled in as a child. He was an excellent carpenter and helped many family members with home projects. He was a skilled welder and had been employed by James Marina and Missouri Dry Dock.

John was very proud of his only child, Devin, and loved to spend time with him. Devin was the best part of John and his life.

John was preceded in death by his father, Jackie Groves, his maternal grandparents, Louis and Florence Sackberger and his paternal grandparents, J.L and Rayola Groves.

Survivors include John's mother, Ruthy (Larry) Groves Klein; his son, Devin; other family members, Linda (Blaine) Adams, John (Carla) Groves, Richard Groves, Dixie Brazis, Emmett Groves, Alda Beth (Bob) Ingram, Donna (Scott) Quesenberry, Jeff (KayLynn) Sackberger, Janie Sackberger, and Giggy (Steve) Wagner.

John leaves behind numerous cousins and family that will be consoled by the many childhood memories that they shared and cherish.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston. There will be a short service at 6:00 p.m. that night.

McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston is in charge of all arrangements.
