Obituary

JOHN C. "JOHNNY" SLATEN, age 49, a resident of Charleston died Monday, June 25, 2012, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born on December 7, 1962 in Cairo, IL to Gene and Ruth Steward Slaten who survive of Charleston. Following his graduation from Charleston High School in 1981, he studied computer science at M.I.T. He had been employed with Ohio Decorative Products Inc. as vice president of communication services until 2003 when his health forced retirement. He attended the First Baptist Church in Charleston, and had been active in civil war reenactments for 15 years.

On October 28, 1983 he married Robin Pazdera who survives of the home.

Surviving in addition to his parents and wife are one son, Bobby Slaten of Charleston; one daughter, Elizabeth Slaten of Charleston; two brothers and sisters in law, Gordon (Terry) Slaten of Charleston and Steve (Martha) Slaten of Cape Girardeau; one sister and brother in law, Mary Susan (Rudy) Ponder of Sikeston; and several nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be held Friday, June 29, 2012, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012.
Rev. Michael Brewer, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, and George Copeland of Cadiz, KY will officiate.

Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Fellow Civil War Reenactors: Allen Winthrop, Tim Sheeks, Gene Kissiar, Scott Parker, Jeff Allen, and Mike Pierpoint, will serve as pallbearers.
