JOHN M. LATIMORE, age 81, a resident of Miner, died Friday, July 4, 2014, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.
He was born May 13, 1933 in Charleston to the late John E. and Dorothy Elizabeth Myers Latimore. He lived in Charleston where he was employed with Missouri Utilities (Ameren UE). In 1966, Missouri Utilities transferred him to Dexter where he lived until moving to Sikeston in 2002. While in Dexter he was a member of the Westside Baptist Church. Following his move to Sikeston he joined the Community Baptist Church. While employed with Missouri Utilities in Dexter he began developing his talent in painting wildlife landscapes. His artwork rapidly became known throughout Southeast Missouri as he displayed his award winning work in area art exhibits. He had a passion for art and great love for his family and friends.. Mr. Latimore will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Yet, we know his kind and loving spirit will continue to live on in our hearts forever.
On June 3, 1955 he married Carolyn Sue Badgett who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two daughters, Regina Marie Latimore Kirkman of Sikeston and Laurie Elizabeth Layton of Dexter; one brother, Paul Rolwing (Barbara) Latimore of Springfield, IL; one sister, Mary Jane (Dan) Hinton of Sikeston; two grandchildren, Colton Glin Moore and Conner Lynn Moore; also two great grandchildren, Jayda Elizabeth Shafer and Carson Glin Moore.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Latimore and Delmar Lynn Latimore, and one son in law, David Glin Moore.
Visitation will be held at the McMikle Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Glenn Cantrell, pastor of the Community Baptist Church in Sikeston, will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Danny Kirkman, Colton Moore, Dan Hinton, Brian Conner, Bill Unger, and Mac Davis.
Interment will follow in the Maynard Cemetery near Diehlstadt under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
