John Wilber Lindsay Goodin, 76, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at the Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast at Miramar Beach, Florida while on vacation with his family.
Born on September 26, 1940, at Cape Girardeau, MO, he was the son of Albert Vernon Goodin, III and Virginia Elizabeth Whitehead Goodin Ridings. He graduated from Charleston High School in 1958 and continued his education at Murray State University and Southeast Missouri State University.
A lifelong resident of Charleston, he was active in his community and a member of the United Methodist Church. As a 6th generation farmer, John operated his family farm in Mississippi County, working in a profession he loved.
On August 13, 1963, he married Clyda Sue Oliver, and they would have celebrated 54 years this year.
Including his wife, he was survived by his four children: J. W. Lindsay Goodin, Jr. and wife Monica of Charleston; Tristan Oliver Goodin of Pensacola, Florida; Margaret Elizabeth Goodin of Saint Louis; and Virginia Grace Estelle Goodin Potashnick and husband John Douglas of Saint Louis. three brothers, Albert Vernon Goodin, IV and his wife Gladys Jane of Charleston, Lester Whitehead Goodin and his wife of Janet of Cape Girardeau; and R.E. Lee Goodin and his wife Sallie of Charleston. Also a number of nieces and nephews.
Also included are his six grandchildren: Scarlett Miles Goodin, Gretta Darby Goodin, Isabella Lindsay Goodin, Dearmont Vernon Goodin, Margaret Lilly Elizabeth Potashnick, and Nicholas Goodin Potashnick.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step-father, John Davis Ridings.
Visitation in honor of John will be begin at 10:30 in the morning on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Charleston. Services will directly follow at 1:00 in the afternoon, with the Reverend Martin Lucas officiating.
Graveside service will follow in the I.O.O.F. cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home. A gathering in remembrance of his life will be held at his beloved home on the Cypress Shores of Big Lake.
Pallbearers will be: Arnold Brewer, Scott Goodin Brink, Al Goodin, Chris Jones, Charles LaPlant, Carl Myers, Michael Myers, Emerson Oliver, Ethan Oliver, Jason Oliver, Joe David Oliver, Rush Oliver, Shelby Story and Stephen Story.
