JOHN F. SKAGGS, age 49, a resident of East Prairie, died at 10:15 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011, from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident that occurred on June 9, 2011 near Scott City.

He was born June 28, 1961 in Festus to the late Bill and Norma Roderick Skaggs and had moved to East Prairie from Union County, IL in August 2002. A graduate of East Prairie High School, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL and then was certified as a Medical Technologist. He was employed with St. Mary's Hospital in Cairo, IL, Union County Hospital in Anna, IL, and in May 2001 took a position at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau where he was currently employed.

On August 25, 1997 he married Sherry Hinson who survives of the home.

Also surviving are one son, Jimmy Stanley of Anna, IL; one daughter, Tamatha Gottschall of East Prairie; and six grandchildren, Ann-Marie, Kathlyn, Dalton John, Tristan, Alizabeth, and Emily.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Lee Skaggs, and two sisters, Dixie Lee Skaggs, and Renee Skaggs.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2011, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where a Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Larry Smith, pastor of The Church of God in East Prairie, will officiate.
