John Alfred Worley, Sr. , 67, a resident of Benton died Monday, June 6, 2016 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born in Sikeston June 18, 1948 to the late George V. and Virginia Lea (Gurnow) Worley. He retired in 1987 after a 20 year career in the United States Army. He was a Sgt. 1st Class and had served during the Viet Nam War. After his retirement he worked as a mechanic at Raben Tire. On Sept. 30, 1967 he was married to Freida L. Diebel in St. Louis and she survives of the home. Also surviving are 1 son, John A. (LaShea) Worley, Jr. of Benton; 2 daughters, Lisa (Ben) Griffin of Benton and Teresa (Timothy) Headley of Lufkin, TX.; 4 brothers, Kenny Worley of Sikeston, Timmy Worley of Cameron Park, Cal., Teddy Worley and Todd Worley both of St. Joseph; 4 sisters, Patricia Reckers of Marshfield, Phyllis Crist of Arkansas, Lori Brewer and Karen Worley both of St. Joseph. Other survivors include 9 grandchildren, Chassidy Ratley, Kayla Phelps, Nicula Phelps, Christian Worley, Jeremiah Worley, Virginia Griffin, Isaac Worley, Jennifer, Griffin and Jonah Worley; and 5 great grandchildren, Maddison Crowden, Peyton Ratley, Christopher Holland, Sophia Holland and Mariah Griffin. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be at Blanchard Funeral Chapel Thursday June 9 from 11:00 am until time for services at 1:00 pm. Rev. Ira Sandefer, pastor of Smith Avenue Church of God will officiate and burial will follow with full military honors at Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the 1140th Eng.
