JOSEPH W. LAYTON JR.

Joseph W. Layton Jr., 67, of Charleston, Missouri, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, in Virginia. He had been in failing health.

He was born Nov. 17, 1951, in Cairo, Illinois, the son of Joseph W. and Patricia (Howlett) Layton. He graduated from Sikeston High School in 1971 and briefly attended Memphis State University. He also attended Southeast Missouri State University. Mr. Layton spent most of his working years as salesman.

Mr. Layton was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force.
He enjoyed fishing and watching movies.

Survivors include his son, Brad Layton and wife Tammy of Waterford, Michigan; former wife, Debbie Durham of Collierville, Tennessee, and their three children, Joseph W. "Trey" Layton III and wife Kimberly of Naples, Florida, Jacquelyn "Jackee" (Layton) Collins and husband Brian of Jackson, Missouri, and Melissa "Missy" Layton of Collierville, Tennessee; former wife, Mary (Thomas) Layton of Johnston City, Illinois, and their four children, Seth Layton (LCpl, USMC) stationed in Chesapeake, Virginia, Rebekah Layton (LCpl, USMC) stationed in Quantico, Virginia, Adelle (Layton) Atchley and husband Blynn of Riverside, Rhode Island, and Robert Layton of Johnston City, Illinois; 11 grandchildren, Tina, Sabrina, Angelina, Brandon, Gabby, Kearsten, Charles, Mariena, Zachary, Preston and Hannah; two great-grandsons, Aiden and Jasper; aunt, Dorothy (Howlett) Renaud of Charleston, Missouri; and uncle, Gene Howlett of South Haven, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jon Layton; and grandson, James.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 1 2019, at New McKendree United Methodist Church, 225 S. High St., in Jackson, Missouri.

Graveside services with full military honors will follow at noon, Friday, February 1, 2019, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield. MO,  with the Rev. Charles Buck,  officiating.
