Joyce Enid Stone, 98, formerly of Byron Center, Michigan, died Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born September 30, 1921, at Byron Center, MI, to the late Lee Marshall and Ferne Wedgwood Marshall, she lived in Byron Center most of her life where she taught first grade a number of years later teaching English as a second language in Wyoming. She spent her early years traveling as a nanny until she married her husband upon his return from the war. After retirement from teaching, she joined the U.S. Peace Corps. She was a member of the South United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids, MI. In 2013, she moved to the Charleston, MO area to be near her granddaughter and family.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth G. Stone; her sister, Ardeth Stolzy; her daughter in law, Patricia S. Stone and her two sons, Michael Roland Stone and Timothy Marshall Stone.

Surviving are her sister, Thais Crane of California; her grandchildren, Amanda (Trent) Hurley of Charleston and Matthew Marshall (Diana) Stone of Hagerstown, MD; her great grandchildren, Emma Marie Hurley, Ethan Stone Hurley and Katherine Elizabeth Stone.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at Winchester Cemetery in Byron Center, Michigan.

Memorials may be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
