Obituary

Judith Jeanette Douglas, a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in East Prairie, Missouri, went to sleep and into the arms of her Savior on the morning of January 27th, 2022. She was 85 years old.

Judy (Mom, Maw, Grandma Judy) was a cowgirl from an early age, and her mother often threatened to put a taillight on her horse because she would ride past dark so often. She loved all animals, especially dogs and cats.

Although she was small, she was strong willed, feisty, and courageous. She fought fiercely for those she loved but also for strangers and anyone down on their luck.

Judy returned to East Prairie and completed her college degree while raising five children with the help of her parents and only missed one day of class due to an ice storm. She would take her children with her to SEMO University on occasion and instilled in them the importance of obtaining a college education. She became a physical education teacher and her students have never forgotten her kindness and guidance.

She dedicated her work life at DHS to families and children in need and will be fondly remembered by many in her hometown of East Prairie, Missouri.

On April 19th, 1974, she married the love of her life, Jerry Douglas. As a testament to his love for her, he willingly took on five children and they had two children to complete their family. It has been a wild ride, full of ups and downs but always full of love.

She held her children and grandchildren accountable for their actions while always loving them unconditionally. She gently counseled them, but only when it was asked of her. She often took sides with her daughters and sons in law and reminded her children to be kind and forgiving. She lived a life full of love and sacrifice for others.

Mom, Maw, Grandma Judy loved Cat Stevens, CCR, and Three Dog Night. She was the "hippest" mom in town. Her mother, Evelyn, remarked that the older she got, the more she realized how wise her daughter was. So many stories can and will be told of this wonderful lady we all loved.

Judy was preceded in death by her mother and father, Evelyn and Roy Walden, and a great granddaughter Leigh-Avy Grace. She leaves behind a sister, Marty (Raymond) Skaggs and two nieces. Her life is celebrated by her children, Karla (Dart) Davis, Willy (Debbie) Wood, Kristi (Scott) Peters, Buck Wood, Melita McArdle, Patrick (Melissa) Douglas and Shannon (Ellis) Sapp. Her love will never be forgotten and lives on in her fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, one who was there to greet her in heaven.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 31, 2022, at the First Christian Church in East Prairie.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Christian Church in East Prairie, Missouri on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, at 11 a.m., followed by interment at East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
